How soda impacts your health: NBA star's tale

Good for you, Caron Butler! This NBA basketball star knew he had an addiction that was negatively impacting his health, his time, and his game. What's your game? Whether it's basketball, or the "sport of life", soda has serious negative consequences on your health.
Caron demonstrated that soda can add pounds, even if you're an athlete who burns more calories every day than most of us burn in a week. He also discusses how it impacted his focus. He gave alot of attention to his soda-drinking.

What would your life be like if you gave up soda? How much better would your life be if you gave up an addiction? How would your health benefit if soda (or other addictions) had less power over you, and took a smaller role in your life?

This article describes how his Mountain Dew soda-drinking habit was consuming him, and how quitting improved his health:

Are your exercise workouts getting you fit?

Are you getting fit? Is your exercise workout program getting you to your goals? If not, you might not be giving your muscles enough variety.

Just like our brains, our muscles need variety to keep them challenged. Your workouts should include cardio exercise, strength-training and stretching. Yes, it's allright to emphasize one more than the other, but you should practice all 3 throughout the week.

Bob Harper, personal trainer for the Biggest Loser TV series, shares a tip about varying your workout:

If your weight loss seems to have plateaued, change your cardio workout. If you aren't getting the tone and curves you want, increase your weight and decrease the number of repetitions you do. And if you are feeling sore or stiff, you need to focus more on stretching.

Vary at least one component of your exercise routine every 4-6 weeks. For great results with little change, simply reverse the order of your exercises. If you always do your strength-training after your cardio, then strength-train first. If you always stretch last, stretch in the middle of the workout. Just some small changes can make a big difference and get you over that hill!

Prevent colds, flu, disease with proper sneezing and healthy lifestyle habits

Prevent colds and flu and other airborn illness by sneezing correctly. Here is the appropriate way to sneeze. Government officials like Health & Human Services' Kathleen Sebelius aren't the only ones who can teach you how to sneeze effectively, to prevent the spread of disease. Elmo, a favorite Sesame Street character, also knows how to sneeze in the right direction. Watch this video clip, demonstrating your best moves when sneezing:

What else can you do to prevent getting a cold, or flu?
Wash your hands often, especially when you are out in public with many people.
Avoid sick people. They don't have the courtesy to stay home when they are sick, but it doesn't mean that you must be around them. Respect yourself by creating your own healthy space.
Get plenty of sleep. When you lack good-quality sleep, your immune system is compromised. Sleep patterns can change, too, as our daylight time shifts. Make adjustments.
Eat healthy, nutritious foods. Bright-colored vegetables are the nutritional key to disease prevention. Being overweight represents a disease state, and it puts you at risk for more disease, so manage your weight and keep it healthy.
Exercise! Get plenty of exercise to boost your immune system. It is one of the few free, simple, gifts that we can give ourselves to stay healthy. Not only does exercise boost the immune system and prevent disease, but it also aids sleep, improves mood, and relieves stress. If you're sleeping better, feeling happy and stress-free, then your body can optimally resist getting sick!
